“What are you doing here…?” Iris questioned the boy who sat atop the rock, staring without thought at what’s in front of him. The waterfall has been a personal place for Iris herself and not many people had wandered in looking for a specific natural formation.
“…? I just found this place and decide to just sit here,” Kasper responded. “If you’re gonna say why didn’t I go home, I said ‘I’ve had enough for today,’ not ‘go home’. Plus, there’s no one around.”
Iris nodded her head with arms akimbo, proud that he had stumbled upon her humble abode with eyes mesmerized by the sight and sounded “umu, umu” in agreement.
“I’ve been appearing here every morning before school for the past few years. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” She said.
“It is.” Kasper then shifted his attention to the bed of flowers that encircled the lake at the bottom of the waterfall, “Those flowers, did you plant them?”
“Mhm! I’ve been fascinated with them forever, so I’d taken up gardening as a side hobby. Unfortunately, I hadn’t been able to plant the one I wanted the most.”
“You’re smart, aren’t you?”
“Just dumber than you.”
“Not true…” Iris denied, “Then answer me this, do you know where the banshee came from?”
“Can’t say I that know…”
“Then we’re equally smart! See? Both of us don’t know where it comes from, so we’re equally clueless!”
“Your logic there is sound.” He said in a sarcastic tone. However, Iris stopped listening as she went into a deep thought on what she had just said.
A banshee is a demon that heralds the death of a family member, so that means that someone’s family member has passed. Everyone’s fine when I left the house. Haru and Rin are fine, mom is fine too. But dad hasn’t been back in a week. On no… Did I set off a flag?
Iris’ face turned as white as a ghost upon leading to that conclusion and said, “I’ll be right back.” As she ran as fast as quick as she could back home.
“H-hey, wait!” Kasper shouted in bewilderment as Iris had just dashed off without any warning.
